Concrete & Metal Prep

A properly prepared surface is the key to an attractive, durable paint job — which makes Klean-Strip® Concrete & Metal Prep a great solution for prepping both metal and concrete surfaces. Klean-Strip® Concrete & Metal Prep actually does the job of three products: (1) it removes rust from iron and steel surfaces and inhibits flash rusting (2) it treats metal surfaces, including galvanized and aluminum, to allow better paint adhesion, and (3) it etches concrete to allow paint or stains to penetrate and adhere.

1. Remove any oil, grease, & dirt from surface. Remove loose rust with a wire brush.
2. Apply product to affected metal full strength with a paintbrush, spray bottle or pump-up sprayer. Work the solution into rusted areas with a stiff bristle brush and allow product to dry overnight to fully neutralize rust.
3. Rinse or wipe surface with a damp cloth to remove any rust residue.
4. Paint treated surface within 48 hours of application to prevent formation of new rust. Two applications may be necessary to treat severe rust.

1. Remove any oil, grease, & dirt from surface.
2. Dilute 1 part product with 3 parts water in a plastic container.
3. Apply product with a paintbrush, spray bottle or pump-up sprayer to metal. Surface may turn gray/white.
4. Thoroughly rinse with water after 15-30 minutes.
5. Wipe off any loose powder that forms. Paint treated surface within 48 hours of application to prevent formation of new rust.

FOR ETCHING CONCRETE (Before Applying a Coating)
1. Concrete must be clean and bare of sealers or coatings.
2. Dilute 1 part product into 4 parts water in a plastic container.
3. Apply this dilution evenly, at a rate of 300 sq ft./gallon, using a plastic garden watering can with sprinkling head. Do not pour onto one spot and brush out over surface. Product should begin foaming as it reacts with concrete - if no foaming happens concrete is sealed and sealer must be removed.
4. Let stand at least 10 minutes and then thoroughly rinse with plenty of clean water, scrubbing lightly with a nylon broom to remove any residue. Allow surface to dry before top coating.

What is Klean Strip® Phosphoric Prep & Etch used for?
For prepping new metal surfaces for painting, removing rust from ferrous metal, or etching concrete so that a sealer or finish will adhere.

What do I have to do before painting my concrete garage floor?
New concrete floors should not be painted until the concrete is cured (90day minimum). First, thoroughly clean and rinse the concrete. Then, use Klean-Strip® Prep & Etch to "open" the concrete so the paint can penetrate and stick better. Do not use Muriatic Acid to etch interior concrete as the fumes can rust any metal in the area or cause health problems if they are allowed to build up.

How long do I leave Klean Strip® Phosphoric Prep & Etch on the surface?
If applying to remove rust, let product sit overnight. If applying to etch new metal for painting, wait 15-30 minutes, and then rinse with water.

Can I apply Klean Strip® Phosphoric Prep & Etch over existing paint?
No, it will damage painted surfaces.

What sort of coverage will I get from a quart of Klean Strip® Phosphoric Prep & Etch?
Approximately 150 sq. ft. per quart.

What is the shelf life of Klean Strip® Phosphoric Prep & Etch?
The shelf life is three years unopened and six months after opening.
